Faustyn Punk Thompson, 90, of Georgetown, passed away at 7:00 am, Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living, Chrisman, IL. He was born on November 5, 1932, in Westville, IL, the son of John and Mae (Bubelis) Thompson. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Loop on June 28, 1958. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by: his children, Steve (Tina) Thompson and Tammy Garza; his son-in-law, Steve (Gayle) Defenbaugh; his grandchildren, Nicole (Lance) Wolfe, Chad (Emily) Defenbaugh, Jake Thompson, Erica Taylor, Cody (Lena Trussel) Garza, and Gina (Rizzo) Perez; his great-grandchildren, Addison, Audrey, Ashlynn, Logan, Hudson, Olivia, Branch, and Pilar; his siblings, AdryAnn Swaney and Iyrann (Hazel) Thompson; many nieces and nephews; and good friend Jack Knoblett. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, JoAnn Shapuras; brothers, John Thompson and Carl Thompson; and his daughter, Sherry Defenbaugh. Punk was raised in Westville, IL, where he attended St. Marys Catholic Grade School and graduated from Georgetown Township High School in 1952. After High School, he participated in Golden Gloves Boxing and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving overseas during the Korean War. Punk loved his Ridge Farm home, where he raised his family, and was known for his big garden and generosity. He helped start the Little League Program in Ridge Farm and enjoyed coaching Minor League and Little League Baseball. He served on the Ridge Farm School Board and as President of the Parent Teacher Association. He was a member of the Ridge Farm Lions Club, Ridge Farm Friends Church, Ridge Farm Fire Department, Westville American Legion Post #51, and he served five years on the Vermilion County Conservation District Board. Punk was honored as Citizen of the Year in Ridge Farm in 1992. Punk retired from Tee Pak after 34 years, where he worked as a lab technician and served several years as a union steward. Throughout his life, Punk spent many hours volunteering and giving back to others. He didnt know a stranger and would help anyone. He loved the outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, and collecting antique bottles, coins, and books. After retirement, he published a fictional book, "Living A Dream," about a wilderness adventure. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 am, Friday, June 16, 2023, at Crown Hill Cemetery, Ridge Farm, IL, with Joe and Melinda White officiating and Military Rites conducted by Westville American Legion Post #51 and the Patriot Guard Riders. His arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois, 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in his name to the Ridge Farm Fire Department or Forest Glen County Preserve.
