Bruce Spires, 69, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Covington on April 1, 2025. He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on March 24, 1956 to the late Paul and Norma Spires.
Bruce dedicated 42 years of his life to working at Quaker Oats in Danville before retiring in 2018. A passionate Harley rider, he cherished the freedom of the open road, in particular when the opportunity arose to travel along the coast. He also had a fondness for old Westerns and enjoyed attending car shows. While his tough exterior may have suggested otherwise, those who knew him well understood that he had a kind and loving heart. Above all, he treasured the time spent with his close family and friends.
Bruce is survived by his daughters Chasity Knapp and Crystal (Tylre) Ball; his daughter-in-law Jill Perez; his significant other Bobbette Hansen; and his cat he affectionately referred to as his pretty girl, Puss-in-Boots. He is also survived by his grandchildren Caydin, Hayven, Camdin, Evan, and Olivia; his sister Paula (Chuck) Wright, 3 brothers Norman (Beverly) Spires, Greg (Becky) Spires and John (Jim) Jack-Kennedy; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
In addition to his parents Paul Spires and Norma Jack, he is preceded by his son Chad Spires; 3 siblings; Carolyn Rasberry, Tony Jack and Jim Spires and his lifelong best friend Danny Stevens.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, at 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the funeral home, as well as a visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. He will be entombed at Sunset Memorial Park’s Mausoleum, alongside his son Chad. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday following services at Sarge’s Tap, located at 409 E. Main St., in Danville. In true Bruce fashion, the family kindly asks guests to wear their Harley gear to services in his honor. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Bruce’s name to Sunset Funeral Home. Please join the family in sharing memories, pictures, or videos on his tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
