Everett Hoover

January 30, 1925 — December 17, 2020

Everett Hoover

PFC Everett John Hoover reported for duty for the last time on 12/17/2020. His previous WWII missions included service in England, Belgium, Ireland, Germany, and the D-Day invasion at Normandy, France. He received a purple heart, three bronze stars, and an honorable discharge.

Everett was born in Danville, IL. on January 30, 1925, the son of John Francis Hoover and Nettie (Butler) Hoover. He was the sixth of eight children.

After his service to the United States, he provided steadfast strength, support, and love to his family. He believed that family was everything and that it was important to take care of each other. This included his seven other siblings.

He sprinkled his life with a sense of humor, an impish grin, and a somewhat bark of a voice that left you laughing.

If you want to know what love is, just look at his undying devotion to Marian (Cox) Hoover. After dating two weeks before being drafted, and two years of letter writing, they married on July 20, 1946. The family grew to include his three children: Sherry Taylor, Terry (Kathy) Hoover, Steve (Mindy) Hoover, his nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Their first grandchild began to call them Grandma and Grandpa Pink. It stuck and Grandpa Pink became his moniker to family and friends, so much so, that some thought Pink was their true last name.

He inspired us by demonstrating that we have limitless possibilities if we work hard and use our resources for self-education. Using that process, he built the family home including wiring and plumbing. (The Danville Public Librarians knew him by first name due to his daily visits.) He had a stash of Chiltons Auto Repair manuals in every corner of the house to fulfill his passion for cars and car restoration, including a model T, a model A, several Corvettes, and his favorite, a 1955 Jaguar. He was also an avid fan of the Indianapolis 500.

He worked for 35 years at Lauhoff Grain Company and retired as Supervisor of Reprocessing in 1986.

After retirement, he started Hoovers Cuckoo Clock Repair and enjoyed many years of tinkering and brought many clocks back to life. There was a time when 23 cuckoo clocks lined the Hoover walls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and his loving wife of 64 years.

Your ongoing generations will continue to honor you.

At ease, soldier.

The family would like to thank all the special care he received at The Waters in Covington, In. Due to Covid restrictions, a private visitation will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm with private celebration of life following at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park. Please join the family in sharing memories, photos, and video on his tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
