Evelyn Ward

Evelyn Marie Ward, 83, of Newport, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton, Indiana. She was born the daughter of the late William and Ruby (Cottrell) Jones in Parke County on July 27, 1941. She married James Pruett (Deceased), then Wilton Leigh (Deceased). 

Survivors include her children Sheila (Ron) Vallosia of Hillsdale, Indiana, Scott Leigh of Newport, Indiana, and Kristi (Jeff) Lamb of Cayuga, Indiana; four grandchildren Darrell (Hailey) Christensen III, Scotty (Casey Sheahan) Leigh, Alandra (Kevin Jones) Leigh, and Mackenzi Lamb; two great grandchildren Clara Christensen and Karter Jones; two sisters Myrna Perry and Linda Davis both of Rockville, Indiana; two brothers Gene (Lana) Jones of Clinton, Indiana, and Kevin (Cheryl) Jones of Rockville, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cheryl Christensen and two brothers Charles and William Jones, Jr.

Evelyn retired from Mason Hangar (Newport Army Ammunition Plant) after 20+ years of service. She was a member of the Cayuga Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed metal detecting, mushroom hunting and spending time outdoors.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the home health care workers and the Vermillion Convalescent Center staff for their love and support as well as the Keystone Hospice staff.

Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s DeVerter Chapel 215 N Division St. Cayuga, In 47928, cremation will be respectfully conducted. Family has chosen no services. A memorial will be at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
