RIDGE Farm - Evelyn Joy Gardner passed this life and found her peace on Wednesday, January 30th, 2008, at Provena USMC, Danville, after a lengthy battle with several health issues. She was born March 7th, 1932, in McKendree Township, to Samuel Pleas Lewis and Nancy Rose (Pribble) Lewis and married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Gardner, on November 6th, 1948. Evelyn was a homemaker and in her younger years, enjoyed many hobbies and activities, including gardening, knitting, bowling, camping, and being with family and friends. She served her community as a scout den mother, Firemans Auxiliary member and Sunday school teacher. In her later years and unable to physically continue with all of these simple pleasures, she remained true to her real passion, the selfless dedication to and care of her family. Survivors include: her sons, Randall P. (Linda) Gardner of Ridge Farm & Lon L. (Jane) Gardner of Terre Haute, IN; her brother, Charles (Betty) Lewis of Georgetown; her grandchildren, Ryan P. Gardner of Danville, Matthew B. (Susie) Gardner of Georgetown, Will J. Gardner and Whitney L. Gardner, both of Terre Haute, IN, Jill (Lance) Turner of Scottsdale, AZ, and Valerie (Adam) Winland of Georgetown; her great grandsons, Gabe Gardner, Dane Ervin, & Ben Winland; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, as well as, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Gerald; six brothers, Robert Lewis, Loren Lewis, Alva Lewis, Paul Lewis, Vernon Lewis, & Dorall Lewis; and her sister, Eleanor Lewis. Evelyn was a member of the Vermilion Grove Friends Church and especially enjoyed the fellowship and music present there. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in her name to the Vermilion Grove Friends Church. A celebration of Evelyns life will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, February 3rd, 2008 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown. Pastor Jim Walker will officiate. A visitation will be held 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Sunday before the service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery.
