Evelyn Joan Bruner

Evelyn Joan Bruner, 80, of Tolono passed away at 11:25pm on Saturday December 12, 2015 at Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana. Joan was born the daughter of Kenneth G. and Esther V. (Martin) Hamilton on February 25, 1935 in Henning, IL. Joan is survived by her three children Victor (Dee) Misner of Tuscola, Terry (Dee) Misner of Rossville, and Daryl Bruner of Tolono; 4 grandchildren Thomas Misner, Shawn Misner, Tyler Misner, and Brandi Hubbard; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; special friends Connie Fenwick and Benjamin Mireles; several cousins includings Robert (Shirley) Moore of Attica, IN and Wanda Martin of Monticello, IN, who were like a brother and sister to her. Joan was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Misner, great-granddaughter Briana Britton, and longtime partner Lorenzo Wood. Joan graduated from East Lynn High School in 1953. She lived in the Hoopeston-East Lynn area for several years before moving to Rossville in 1971. She resided in Paxton and Hoopeston until 1998 when she relocated to San Antonio, TX with her son Daryl. In 2006 they moved back to Hoopeston, IL for a short time before settling in Tolono. Joan worked as a bookkeeper at Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital for 20 years, and she retired from Creative Products in Rossville in 1998. While in San Antonio she worked at Madison Estates and Cracker Barrel. Joan enjoyed making plastic canvas projects which were works of art, and she was also an avid fan of the San Antonio Spurs. She loved helping her son Daryl at flea markets and spending time with family and friends. Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center on Wednesday December 30, 2015 from 9am-11am with service to follow at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Potomac Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Joan's name to Alzheimer's Association.
