Evelyn Elizabeth Holt Butler, 74, of Danville, passed away at 8:58 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Provena U.S.M.C. - Logan Campus in Danville. She was born June 6, 1930 in Potomac, Illinois the daughter of Richard E. and Laura Nettie (McGlaughlin) Holt. She married Ray Frank Butler I on August 10, 1952 in Potomac, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1971. Evelyn is survived by: 2 Sons- Ray "Frank" (Janet) Butler II and John (Melisa) Butler - both of Danville; 3 Grandchildren- Jennifer Butler, Jill Butler and Tyler Ray Butler - all of Danville; 3 Sisters- Lillian Criblez of Potomac, Helen (Hardin) James of Potomac and Laura "Richardeen" Watt of St. George, Utah; 13 nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, her parents and 2 Grandsons - Ray Frank Butler III and Jeffrey Allen Butler preceded her in death. She graduated from Armstrong Township High School in 1948 as Salutatorian of her class. While her husband was serving in the Armed Forces, she worked in the Medical Records Section of the U.S. Army Hospital at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Later she worked at the Danville Public Library and was one of the organizers of the Illiana Genealogical and Historical Society of Vermilion County, Illinois. She was youth Sunday School teacher, Committee Woman of Troup 11 Boy Scouts of America. She served as church organist for 59 consecutive years. Her hobbies were music and genealogy. She loved the farm life. Member of Muncie Baptist Church, Muncie, Illinois where she had served on the Deaconess Board and was an organist. She attended all of her grandchildren's sporting events and was an avid Illini fan.
