Evelyn Elain Winkle, 97, of Georgetown, passed away at 2:30 am on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman. She was born October 24, 1915 in Georgetown, the daughter of Charlie and Myrta Summers Stephenson. She married Robert James Winkle on May 25, 1937. They shared their love for each other for 75 years. She is now reunited with her loving husband who preceded her in death on October 25, 2012. Survivors include one son, Stephen (Joan) Winkle of Georgetown; 4 grandchildren, Brad (Donna) Winkle of Jamestown, North Carolina, Brian (Laura) Winkle of Georgetown, David Winkle, currently serving his country overseas, and Amanda Winkle of Georgetown; 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Raymond, Alan, Homer, Glenden and Wayne Stephenson ; one sister, Etna Richardson and several other beloved family members and friends. Evelyn worked for many years in the cafeteria at Davies Meat Packing in Danville, and also served as a substitute in the lunchroom for the former Harrison School as well as Georgetown Schools. Evelyn was extremely welcoming to everyone who visited her home. She always had a fresh pie baked and ready for all who visited, and did this until the age of 96. She didn't know what it meant to quit. She will always be remembered for her love of family and friends, and will be greatly missed. A celebration of the life of Evelyn Winkle will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown. Officiating will be Matt Filicsky. She will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-6 pm on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Georgetown United Methodist Church.
