It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Evelyn Devore, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who departed this life on November 2, 2025, on her birthday and All Saints Day at the age of 96.
Born on November 2, 1929, in Danville, IL, to Mark and Josephine Jumps. Mom built a life centered on faith, love, laughter, and hard work. She had a gift for making everyone feel at home — whether it was through her warm smile, a comforting meal, or her gentle words of encouragement. Her home was more than just a place; it was a refuge of love and togetherness.
Evelyn graduated from Bismarck High School and Utterback Brown Business College. She worked at Illinois Power Company, West Newell Grain Elevator, and Devore Family Farms.
She dedicated her life to her family and friends, always putting others before herself. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends, especially her church friends at Farmer Chapel United Methodist church.
Mom loved baking, sewing, balloons over Danville, and serving the lord at Farmers Chapel. Mom was a founding board member with Fair Hope. She also won the Pilsbury Bake Off in 1967 with her pineapple upside down cake recipe and was the inventor of “pudding in the cake”. Her kindness and unwavering strength were an example to all who knew her.
She is survived by her son David (Robin) Devore of Georgetown, IL, Adopted sons, Brian (Diane) Moews and Mike (Beth) Offutt, Grandchildren, Deven (Abby) Devore of Washington, IL, Drew Devore of Saint Louis Park, MN, Mallory (Sam) Couch of Danville, IL, Justin Brown, and Melissa (Yusef) Ahmed. Great grandchildren, Emma Devore, Max Devore, Drake Devore, Kailyn Devore, Noah Couch, Kendall Couch, Mazie Brown, Milee (Troy) Devore, Morgan Brown, Lathan Brown, Devon Brown, and Shane Brown. Great-great grandchildren, Eddie Romero, Luna Brown and Milee Rose Brown, who will carry her love and lessons with them always. Special friends, David and Joy Patten and Matt and Shirley Steinbaugh.
She now reunites in heaven with her husband Alva Devore, Jr., where we know she is smiling down on us. Mom was predeceased by her parents Mark and Josephine Jumps, brother, Sam (Patricia) Jumps, daughter, Gail Brown, and Granddaughter, Jessica Brown.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834.
