Evelyn Conley, 90, of Danville passed away on Christmas Eve at 8:30 am at the VA Illiana Healthcare System in Danville. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Evelyn Conley began her lifes journey on April 12, 1924. She was born the oldest of nine siblings to Charles Derby and Beulah (Martin) Spicer. Evelyn attended Willow Springs School in Hawbuck, IL. She graduated from Westville Hogh School in 1942. Evelyn attended basic training for the United States Navy at Hunter College in New York. She also attended Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda Maryland for medical training. She was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia for two and a half years. Upon discharge, she settled in Urbana, IL where she married Harlan Conley and had two children, Vicki (James) Allen and Howard (Rose) Conley. She was employed for many years in the medical field until her retirement when she began a new phase as “nanny” to several children in her home. Her beloved pastime was reading, especially the Bible. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Danville, IL for fifty years where she served faithfully in many elected offices. During that time, she also served along with her husband in the bus ministry. Evelyn was a resident at Immanuel Senior Residency where she considered many residents there her family. She looked forward to the Bible Study each Tuesday morning as well as many other activities that were offered. She is survived by three siblings, Ott (Irene) Spicer, Pat Albea and Arlene (Jeff) Leighty; two children, Vicki Allen and Howard Conley, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and special pastors that visited her regularly, Pastor Curtis Darling of Calvary Baptist Church and Pastor Phillip Newman of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by both parents, husband of forty-seven years Harlan, and five sisters, Grace Spicer, Betty Young, Lucia Kirk, Nita McCormick, and Jackie Copas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to First Baptist Church. Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ. A celebration of Evelyns life will be at 12:00 p.m., Monday, December 29, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at a later date at the Danville National Cemetery.
