Eva Ladean Slayton went to be with the Lord at 5:30 a.m. on July 17th, 2011, due to complications from Alzheimers. She fought this disease for over 15 yrs and it was time to go home. Eva was born to Nellie and Hade Norman in 1927 and spent most of her childhood in the Catlin and Chrisman area on the family farm. She graduated from Chrisman High School in 1945, where it was rumored that she could out run most of the boys on the track team. Noted in her daily journals were her love for family, prayer and the Christian way of life. She was a member of the Second Church of Christ, and then later, along with her husband Harland, was one of seven families that founded Northland Christian Church. Eva loved outdoor activities and when she made a good swing, could hit a golf ball almost as far as most men. She enjoyed all types of gardening, especially caring for her beautiful roses. Her mother Nellie taught her what is required to be a great cook. Biscuits and gravy, Italian meatballs and her famous pound cake that was so melt in your mouth good, you did not need toppings. In February 1947, she married Harland Leon Slayton and they began their 57 yrs of life together before Harlands death in 2004. She is survived by her son Jim (Mary Rita) Slayton, granddaughters Chantelle (Andy) Swartz and Charmaine (Peter) Chidester. Her great-grandchildren Drew and Ryleigh Swartz and Elizabeth, Jessie, William and Tommy Chidester. Also included are her sister- in- law Deloris Norman, as well as many other nieces and nephews In addition to her husband Harland, she was preceded in death by her only daughter Brenda (lived 4 days) as well as her parents, Nellie and Hade Norman, and her brother Jim Norman.
