Eugene Victory Thompson, Jr., of Danville, IL, died on October 11, 2015, at the age of 60. Gene was born in Danville on May 3, 1955 to Eugene Victory Thompson Sr. and T. Mercedas (McGinnis) Thompson, who both preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Michael Thompson and Sarah Thompson, his wife Andrea Caudill, his sisters, Jodie Smith and Susan (Gary) Richardson, and four nieces and nephews, Jennifer (David) Tyo, Wade Richardson, Shelby (Andrew) Pattengale, and Jared Smith, along with six great-nephews and nieces, Cameron, Clayton, Collin and Caden Tyo, and Olivia and Grace Pattengale. He will also be deeply missed by his dear friend, Jennie Magnuson, his lifelong buddies, The Chesters, and their families. After graduating from Danville High School in 1973, Gene began working hard and filling his life with the stories that would entertain others and sustain himself in the difficult times to come. He loved his family; his friends; any and all work; playing hockey, basketball, and softball; and rooting for the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Red Wings, the Danville Dans, and the Danville Dashers. He was passionate about music, movies, politics, history, good beer, and smart women. He enjoyed traveling, once nearly getting himself arrested at the Miami airport for smuggling zip-lock bags of sand from his favorite Caribbean beaches. Gene had a heart as big and strong as ten oxen, with room left over for the quickest brain, the tightest hug, the wickedest sense of humor, and the deepest loves. At Gene's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers or condolences, please work hard, play some basketball, go see a game, listen to live music, watch a funny movie that makes you think, and just spend time with the people you love. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville are in charge of arrangements. Please join Gene's family in sharing photos and memories on his tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
