Eugene Ottarski, 89, of Danville, passed away at 2:57 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Eugene was born on January 4, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York to Antoni & Alexandra (Siedlecka) Oltarzewski. He married the love of his life, Alice Dean, on June 5, 1949 in the Bronx, New York He is survived by his sons: Mark (Brenda) Ottarski, Steve (Janet) Ottarski, and Greg (Marlenis) Ottarski; Grandchildren: Aaron Ottarski, Jennifer Craft, Alexsa Canfield, Candice Casey, Amber Andres, Kyle Ottarski, Brent Ottarski; step-granddaughter: Kim Hoskins; great grandchildren: Gavin Ottarski, Hasan Shillo, Hannah Shillo, Madelyne Craft, Olivia Craft, Connor Craft, Evan Canfield, Collin Canfield, Hayden Hoskins, Breahna Hoskins, Tyler Carlson, Zachary Carlson, Jacob Casey, Natalie Casey, and Alison Andres; also, several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother: Anthony Ottarski; and sisters: Victoria Gioe, Alice Ottarski, and Frances Sypa. Eugene was known for his faith, good sense of humor and replying with his catch phrases "marvelously" and "splendidly". He enjoyed spending time with his family; making trips to Indiana Beach, holiday gatherings, and any sort of night out. In his spare time Eugene would read murder mystery novels and watch old classic black and white movies. In his earlier years Eugene was in the U.S. Navy from 1943 - 1945 as a radioman 3rd class. He received the Philippine Liberation Medal. He would later go on to attend Pace college in the early 50's and worked as a sales manager at ESCO, first in New York, then later in Danville until his retirement in 1991. He attended St. Paul's Church in Danville and was an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist for years. For the last 20+ years he was a Red Vest Volunteer at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center. Special heartfelt gratitude is extended by the entire Ottarski family to Dawn Merrill, Eugene's home health care nurse for the past 3 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015 at St. Paul's, with Father Greg Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday December 20, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. The Rosary will be recited at 3:30.
