Eugene O'Neill

Eugene Mark O’Neill of Land of Lakes Florida, formerly of Fithian, Illinois passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2026. Eugene was born March 28, 1937 in Champaign, Illinois to John and Marjorie O’Neill (Jurgensmeyer).

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marjorie O’Neill, his older brother Gerald and his daughter Robin. He is survived by his wife Peggy, his brother Richard, his children, Scott, Todd, Kirk and Janine, grandchildren Brad and Arron O’Neill as well as his great grandchild Axel.

Eugene attended Holly Cross Elementary, Dr. Howard Elementary and Champaign High School as well as University of Illinois and General Motors Institute before being drafted in the Navy. After returning from the Navy Eugene moved to Fithian Illinois and farmed in both Vermilion and Champaign counties for over fifty years.

After retiring Eugene moved to the Tampa area where he invested in many rental properties and established a great network of friends through his neighborhood and Catholic church which was a very important part of his life. Eugene (Gene) will be missed by many.

There will be service in Tampa, Florida and the burial will take place on October 2nd at 1:00 pm at G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer Illinois. A wake will be held at the Philo Tavern from 3:00 pm to

5:00 pm on October 2nd.
