Eugene Donald Mozer, 92, of Danville, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center. Eugene was born April 30, 1916 in a log cabin in Havre, Montana, the son of Ernest & Althea (Adair) Mozer. He married Helen Hall on March 20, 1948 she preceded him in death on July 10, 1994. Eugene is survived by many nieces and nephews, along with his VA group home care giver and the men he lived with. He was preceded in death by his parents, two half-brothers Harrison Buck Ervin, Paul Ervin and two sisters Gladys Mozer- Bayliss and Alberta Mozer -Schultz. Eugene served in the United States Army in the Philippines where he contracted malaria and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars he also served as the company bugler. After the Army, Eugene worked as a housekeeper for the VA. As a young boy, he saved another boy from drowning and was given a special award from the Boy Scouts. Uncle Gene was a very caring person, he was always happy and will be remembered by all of us for his many stories, and the many fun times we had with him. A celebration of Eugenes life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Danville Illiana Healthcare System Chapel, 1900 E. Main St. Danville, IL with Pastor Phil Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:00 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the Chapel. Memorials may be made in Eugenes name to the Vermilion County War Museum. Arrangements entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
