Eugene 'Gene' Wayne Johnson

Catlin - Eugene "Gene" Wayne Johnson, 89, of Catlin passed away at home with his wife by his side on July 15, 2017 at 11:15 PM. Gene was born on September 6, 1927 in Rossville, IL the son of Harry P. and Hulie R. (Thompson) Johnson. Gene married Ida Street on December 24, 1979 in Catlin, IL and she survives of Catlin. Other survivors include his three sons, Eugene Wayne (Ruth) Johnson, Jr., Ronnie Dean (Mary) Johnson and Finley Morris (Charla) Johnson all of Danville, IL, one daughter, Brenda Sue (Butch) Cross of Danville, IL, two step sons, Scott Smith and Montell (Kelly) Smith of Catlin, IL and one step daughter, Tina (Jon) Hubbart of Villa Grove, IL two brothers, Francis (Fern) Johnson of Hoopeston, IL and Claude Johnson of Warsaw, IN as well as many grandchildren, step grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jerry Lee Johnson, one daughter, Kathryn Arleen Rodriguez, two brothers, William L. Johnson and George W. Johnson as well as three sisters, Ruby Mockabee, Dorothy Nimrick and Beverley Johnson. Gene served his country in the United States Army from September 1945 until December of 1947. He worked for the railroad before entering the Army. After the service, he started working in the HVAC industry and retired from Blackie's Heating and Cooling after 30 years of service. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion Street Danville, IL. Raymie Gordon will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the funeral home.
