CHECOTAH OK- Eugene B. Gene Cronkhite, 92 of Checotah, OK, formerly of Danville, passed away at 5:52pm on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at his residence. Gene was born on September 24, 1915, in Chenyville, IL, the son of Herman and Eula Dengler Cronkhite. Both deceased. On January 8, 1983, Gene married Evelyn Siville in Hoopeston, IL. She survives. Other survivors include four children: William (Marie) Cronkhite of Danville, James (Barbara) Pyle of Oklahoma, David (Cindy) Pyle of Ohio, and Nancy (Steven) Denehie of Tenn. Gene is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Wayne Cronkhite, Jenelle Harrell, Alecia Pyle, Ben Pyle, Lucas Pyle Amy Roberts, Georgianna Moody, and his brother; Raymond Cronkhite of Hoopeston. His first wife Juanita Witty Cronkhite, his grandson; James Lynn, and his sister; Marita Webb precede Gene in death. Gene worked on the C&I railroad as a car fitter for 20 years and later worked at Esco of Danville, as a welder, for 19 years. He was a member of the Danville 1st Baptist Church and a member of the Danville Junction Rail Road Chapter Club. Gene enjoyed camping, gardening, reading his Bible, mowing the lawn, model railroading and being with family.
