Ethel Stovall, 75, of Danville, passed away at 12:50 PM on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Ethel was born on September 21, 1936 in Memphis, TN, the daughter of Monroe and Christine (Boyd) Stovall-Smith. She is survived by one sister- Jessica Smith of Danville, one brother- Harold M. Smith of Springfield, one aunt- Jessie Stinson of Danville, two nieces- Christine Smith and Courtney Smith of Danville, three nephews- Christopher Bougard of Indianapolis, IN, Cameron Smith of Marian, IL and Gregory Butler of Danville, two special great-nieces- Christen Bougard, Destiny Dye and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Ethel was baptized in the Baptist Faith at an early age. She was a graduate of Memphis, TN city schools and went on to LeMoyne College in Tennessee. After her graduation from LeMoyne College she enrolled at the University of Illinois where she received her Master's Degree in Sociology. Ethel was a social worker for over 40 years, mostly at the VA Iliana Healthcare Systems in Danville. She touched the lives of many young people while working at the Children's Home in Danville and also at the Vermilion County Headstart. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and knitting. A Celebration of Ethel's Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Sunset Funeral home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville with Reverend Gregory Stoner officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 PM before the service. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
