Ethel W. Greene, 86, of Danville went to be with the Lord Jesus at 10:15pm on March 18, 2009 at Provena USMC in Danville. She was born on July 29, 1922 in Huntingburg, IN, the daughter of John and Kathryn (Todrank) Hilgeman. Both deceased. On June 19, 1948, Ethel married Mr. Paul Greene at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Danville. He survives along with their two sons, Paul (Vicki) Greene of Clarendon Hills, IL, Dr. Gary A. Greene of Berwyn, IL, their granddaughter, Kathryn (Ben) Jacob of Dallas, TX, and her brother, Irvin Chris Hilgeman of Wisconsin Dells, WI. Her four brothers, two sisters, and her granddaughter precede Ethel in death She attended Henning High School and graduated from Oakwood High School in 1941, then attended Danville Business School. Her employment years began as a Secretary in the War Department (now Department of Defense in Washington D.C) where she worked for more than six years, while maintaining an office at the Pentagon. She later returned to Danville and worked, as a Secretary to Attorney John Stipp, and in addition, she was also associated with the First National Bank of Danville. Ethel enjoyed sewing and soon became a professional seamstress for many years working out of her home. She was an active member of Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church in Danville, serving as Secretary of the Board and Treasurer of the Ladies Missionary Society. She was also a dedicated member of the Church Choir and Welcome All Sunday School Class, serving as its Treasurer for several years, as well as a former member of the AARP. She and her husband Paul enjoyed traveling and camping.
