Esther V. Downing

Esther V. Downing, 88, of Oakwood, passed away at 11:42am, Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at her home. She was born on December 31, 1926, in Crawfordsville, IN, the daughter of Hershel and Fern {Timmens} Drollinger. On September 27, 1959, she was united in marriage to Leo Downing in Kingman, IN. He will miss her dearly. Those who will also miss her include: her son, Andrew Downing of Danville; her daughter, Pam (Michael) Gurchie of Mobile, AL; her aunt, Ruth Downing of Rantoul; her sister, Helen Rahn of Wallace, IN; her granddaughter, Andrea Downing of Danville; and her many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Norman Drollinger. Esther was a member of the Oakwood Christian Church and was a Worship Leader. She also was a life member of the N.A.R.F.E. Association and volunteered her time to Presence USMC. She had worked and also managed the former Kingman Department Store in Kingman, IN, and had worked at A.S.C.S. in Danville, as well as the Oakwood Bank. Esther loved playing the piano for the church and working in her yard tending her flowers. She cherished her family. A celebration of Esther's life will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, June 15, 2015, at Sunset's Oakwood Chapel with Pastor Dave Birch officiating. Visitation will be held 12pm-2pm, Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Gundy Cemetery in Bismarck. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations given to the Oakwood Christian Church in Esther's name.
