Esther M. Shelton

Esther M. Shelton 84, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 2:07 p.m. Saturday January 3, 2009 at North Logan Healthcare. She was born May 20, 1924 in Ridge Farm, the daughter of Theodore and Esther Nale Steeples. She married Wilbur W. Shelton in 1949 in Danville; he preceded her in death on April 18, 1956. Those who will miss her is a son Howard A. Shelton of Ridge Farm, four grandchildren; Kim (Tom) Darby, Chad (Mindy) Shelton, Todd (Tammy) Satterlee, Travis Shelton, eleven great-grandchildren; Lexi, Jake and Carson Darby, Lane, Gavan and Leyla Mae Shelton, Robert and Tyler Satterlee, Blake and Austin Shelton, Kirsten Columbo, two daughters in-law; Valarie Shelton and Betty Shelton, two sisters; Catherine Beck and Rose Freed, also a host of nieces, nephews and cousins that were special, and a special friend Henrietta Foote and others in this area that were very dear to Esther. She was preceded in death by a son Joe, her parents, three brothers and four sisters, a special sister in-law Edith Williams and a special Aunt Lucy Garrison, and a special friend Audrey Lawyer. Esther worked for the Postal System in Ridge Farm for 18 years and retired March 31, 1989. She was baptized at First Christian Church in Ridge Farm on March 29, 1964. She attended the Ridge Farm Church of Christ for many years where she served as custodian until 2007. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very dear to her. Esther enjoyed the many photographs of them that had been given to her. She loved her family dearly and will depart saying Love one another always. A celebration of life funeral service for Esther M. Shelton will be 10:00 am Wednesday January 7, 2009 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crown hill cemetery in Ridge Farm. Visitation for family and friends will be 4-7 pm Tuesday January 6, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be given in her memory to Ridge Farm Church of Christ.
