Ery Lawrence Weicherding

Ery Lawerence Weicherding, 89 of Danville, IL passed away on March 19, 2016, in Indianapolis, IN. Ery was born on 9/21/1926 in Streator, IL to Erhard and Fern (Elkelberry) Weicherding. Ery was the second of four children to Erhard and Fern Weicherding. Ery had three sibilings: Mary Virgina Weicherding, Wallace Weicherding, and David Weicherding. He was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, John and Frances Hooley. Ery grew up and spent most of his early life in Peoria, Il. He graduated from Spalding Catholic High School in 1944. While in high school he played football, baseball, and basketball. He joined the U.S. Navy on January 18, 1945 and served in the Pacific during World War II on a troop transport. He married his wife Mary Lorraine Hooley on October 20, 1951 and had four children, Debora Weicherding (Nygren) John Weicherding, Lynne Weicherding (Simnick), and Mark Weicherding. Ery graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in education in May 1950. Ery also attended Bradley University for his Master of Arts degree in education and graduated in May 1959. Ery spent his whole life dedicated to education and was a teacher, principal, and dean of boys. After retiring from education he went back to school and obtained his LPN and was an administrator of nursing homes and worked for the VA in Danville, IL . He was a member of the Nights of Columbus, Illinois Teachers Association, and St Paul's Catholic Catholic Church in Danville, IL. Ery was married to his wife Mary for 65 years and is survived by her. Ery is survived by his four children Debora, John, Lynne, Mark and his daughter in laws Rhonda Weicherding and Carrie Weicherding. Ery had three grandchildren Joshua Nygren, Mark Aire, and Mathew Weicherding. Ery is also survived by his great grandson Gabriel Nygren, Joshua's son and his wife Melissa Nygren. Ery spent his final days surrouned by love and his wife Mary, his daughter Debora, his grandson Joshua, great grandson Gabriel, and his joy Lucy his dog. A Mass of Christian Burial for Ery will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Danville with Fr. Greg Nelson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday March 22, 2016 with a rosary service at 4:30 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery and Mausoleum in Peoria, IL. Memorials can be made in Ery's name to St. Paul's Catholic Church or the American Alzheimer's Association.
