Danville- Ervin L. Burd, 92, of Alvin passed away at 2:24 PM on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at his home. He was born on July 16, 1921 in Danville, the son of Truman “Polly” and Goldie Craft Burd. He married Charline L. Leamon on December 4, 1959 in Danville. She preceded him in death on August 29, 2009. He is survived by a brother, Ed Burd of Ridge Farm, IL; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Neil and Cindy Ingram of Alvin, IL. He was preceded in death by a sister, Merrilee (Ernest) Smith, sister-in-law Sue Burd, a nephew, and his parents. Ervin was a Ridge Farm High School graduate and went on to serve his country as a combat engineer in the US Army during WWII. He then began work as a maintenance electrician at GM until his retirement in 1982. Ervin was a member at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Danville and the Illinois Stock Horse Association. He was an animal lover, enjoyed camping and trail rides and loved spending time with his family. A service to celebrate the life of Ervin Burd will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Ray Plummer will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10-11AM prior to the service on Monday.
