Ernest John Byers, 86, of Danville, passed away at 6:35 a.m., Friday April 13, 2007 at his home after a brief illiness. John was born March 20, 1921 in Lafayette, Indiana the son of Ernest and Ruth Jennings White Byers. On January 16, 1943 he and Anne McMillan were married in St. Louis. She preceded him on April 25, 1990. He is survived by their three children Mike ( Pam) Byers of Williamsport, Indiana, John Byers of Bloomington, In. Anne W. Byers of Spokane, Washington; one grandson Rob (Karen) Byers of Atlanta,Ga. and a great grandchild on the way. He was preceded by his parents, wife and a son James Ernest Byers.John was a farmer in Stueben Township in Warren County and maintained a lifelong interest in agriculture. He had a great sense of humor, astute mind, and loved to debate politics and world issues. He enjoyed playing golf and had a singing voice that won him a scholarship to Indiana University. Later he would perform at weddings and funerals for friends. He was a veteran of WWII with the Army Air Corps, was a pilot of C-47 transport aircraft, and served in the European theater and North Africa.He also was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, the Masons and other fraternal organizations. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at the Marshfield Presbyterian Church, 7181 W 450 S, Williamsport,Indiana on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. EST. Reverend Grover Williams will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Warren Co. Foundation , 31 North Monroe Street, Williamsport, Indiana 47993 and would be appreciated.
