Ernest Anthony Hubert Jr gained his heavenly wings on Sunday, May 23, 2021. Ernie or Big Ern as he was affectionately called was born August 20, 1963 in Hartford, CT. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy for 20 years as a Petty Officer First Class. After retiring from the military, Ernie continued as a civilian contractor for the government and mentored other personnel as he continued to do what he loved which was serving our country. Throughout his Naval career, Ernie made many lifelong friends at VF 101, VF 103, and other squadrons. The only thing Ernie loved more than serving our country was his family. Ernie was a devoted husband to his wife Julie (Almoney) Hubert for thirty glorious years. The two were inseparable and share a love that can only be found in the greatest of fairy tales. Besides being a loving husband, Ernie was a beloved son to his mother Johanna Rancourt and his father-in-law Melvin Almoney and loving nephew to his Aunt Delina and Bill Aberle. One of Ernies greatest achievements was being a dedicated father to his daughter Amy Peterson and her partner Greg Pleasant; and a caring Pop Pop who loved to spoil his grandsons, Jeremiah and Samuel Pleasant. Not only a great brother to his fellow shipmates, Ernie was also a cherished brother to his sister Christy Eaton, as well as his sister and brothers-in-law Grace and Scott Fidler; Sylvia (Jean) and Carl (Sonny) Daugherty; and Melvin (Rick) and Alicia Almoney. We cannot forget the crew of nieces and nephews who looked up to their uncle with admiration Amber Goss, Jessica and Jay Castleman, Amanda Daugherty, Heather Goss, Michael Almoney, Casey Almoney and Marcus Eaton. Ernie will be greatly missed by his "greats" Jase Castleman, Aaliyah LaRue, and his best friend who cannot wait to tell the world that her Uncle Ernie is an angel watching over her, Penelope LaRue. The list of extended family, friends, and fellow shipmates who loved Ernie is endless and could go on for miles. No doubt, Ernie was greeted at the Pearly gates by his mother-in-law Cassandra Almoney, his father Ernest Hubert Sr and his grandparents. A memorial service for Ernie will follow at a later date. Memorial donations to assist with final expenses may done by sending to the family or funeral home. His family has entrusted his care to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846. Please join his family in sharing memories through his Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com Rest easy, Big Ern, while your tour of duty here on earth is done, we await our final deployment when we may be reunited once again. May Heaven have fair winds and following seas.
