Erma Ruth Stevenson, 90, of Georgetown, passed away at 1:40pm, Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Provena USMC, Danville. She was born to Byron and Lula (Browning) Blythe on April 20, 1918, in Decatur, IL. She was united in marriage to James Jacob Stevenson on December 2, 1939, in Chicago, IL, until his passing on April 5, 2003. Those who will miss her include: her sons, Van (Rayna) Stevenson of Covington, IN, & Jerry Stevenson of Sterling, IL; her daughters, Beverly (Jim) Green of Georgetown & Deborah Stevenson of Bloomington, IL; her four grandchildren, Todd (Angela) Green of Georgetown, Michael (Nicole) Green of Le Roy, IL, Chad (Jamie) Green of Lebanon, TN, & Rachel (Quinn) Miller of Covington, IN; her six great grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, Maya, Taylor, Evan, & Brandon Green with a seventh grandchild on the way; her sisters, Nora Belle Rouse & Ilene (Claude) Robertson, both of Georgetown; as well as, many nieces & nephews. Erma was preceded in death by: her parents, her brother, Francis Blythe, and her sister, Margaret Eldridge. In her early years, Erma worked for Woolworths in Chicago and in Danville. She was the manager of the former Woolenwear Company in Georgetown. She was a life member of the Georgetown Church of the Nazarene and was most recently honored at the Centennial Celebration of the Church of the Nazarene. She had also been honored with the Distinguished Service Award. She had taught Sunday School for the Adult class and when younger, she also taught the high school class. She was a mighty prayer warrior. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling to gospel sings, word searches, and puzzles. Christ was always first in Ermas life; and she also treasured her time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A celebration of Ermas life will be held at 10:00am, Monday, November 10, 2008, at Georgetown Church of the Nazarene, 8th Street & N Main Street, Georgetown. Pastor Gary Farris will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church from 2p to 6p, Sunday, November 9, 2008. She will be laid to rest in Forest Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ermas name are welcomed for the Georgetown Church of the Nazarene. Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
