OAKWOOD - Erma G. Wheeler, 97, of Oakwood passed from our earth to a new life with her Lord September 26, 2014, at Gardenview Manor in Tilton. She was born the first child of Robert and Minnie (Baker) Burke on April 18, 1917, near Oakwood. As a young woman she moved to Indianapolis and secured a position as live-in nanny, cook and housekeeper for a small family. It was there in 1940 where she met and married her husband, Doyle. Upon his retirement, they returned to the Oakwood area. He passed away in 1981. She is survived by her daughter, Karen; and a brother, Russell of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers, Robert, Ralph, Richard, Roy and Raymond. Erma was a devoted wife and the best mother a kid could ever hope for. Her love was boundless. In accordance with her desire, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, and there will be no visitation or funeral. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 1st at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Matt Filicsky officiating. So I am glad, not that my friend has gone, But that the earth she laughed and lived upon was my earth, too; That I had closely known and loved her, and that My loved Id shown. Tears over her departure? Nay, a smile That I had walked with her a little while, Glad her earth was my earth.
