Ercel Dodson

Ercel E. Dodson, 101, of Danville, formerly Potomac, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2007 at North Logan Healthcare. Ercel was born on August 9, 1906 in Potomac, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Maude (Johnson) Smith. She married Cecil M. Dodson Sr. in 1924 in Blount Township. He preceded her in death in May of 1965. She is also survived by one son- Cecil M. (Diane) Dodson of Covington, Indiana; one daughter- Phyllis (Melvin) White of Ridge Farm, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 6 step-grat grandchildren; 4 step-great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons- David and Dale Dodson; two sisters; and two brothers. Ercel attended Potomac High School. In her younger years Ercel was a telephone operator in Potomac. She was also a housemother for Danville Junior College and the YMCA. Cecil and Ercel farmed in Jamesburg, Potomac and Blount Township for several years. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She loved to spend time reading her bible, gardening, and canning. She loved being around her family. A Celebration of the Life of Ercel E. Dodson will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Visitation will be from 4:00 " 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
