Emma Jane Brown

Emma Jane Brown, 94, of Danville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2012 at the North Logan Health Care Center in Danville. She was born on July 24, 1917 in Gabel, IL, the daughter of William "Murray" and Belva Lockwood (Gaines) Murphy. Both are deceased. Survivors include her grandchildren, David, Richard, Christopher, Linda, Rachel, and Andrew Brown; Sarah Steuteville; Julie Allanach; 5 great-grandchildren; three nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, and her daughter-in-law, Karen Brown. She was preceded in death by her brother, Glen E. Murphy, her niece, Janice A. Richardson, her granddaughter, Laurie Oliver, and her two sons, David and Thomas Brown, who gave their lives in service to their country and mankind. Emma Jane was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Danville, and also attended the Community Church of God in Danville. She worked as a radiologic technologist at the former St. Elizabeth Hospital, Chanute A.F.B. in Rantoul, IL, and her later years at the Danville VA Medical Center until retirement. Emma Jane was a living example of God's grace. Despite the tragedy and heartbreak of losing both of her children in service to their country, she chose to find joy in life. She fervently served God and looked for opportunities to help others. She got pleasure from the simplest things, and her laughter was contagious. Per her wishes, Emma will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Danville with burial following at Springhill Cemetery. A public gathering of family and friends will be from 1-2pm on Thursday at the church. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, is in charge of handling the arrangements. Memorials should be sent to Community Church of God Missions. Please join Emma's family in sharing memories of her life through her Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
