Urbana - Emily Louise White, "Aunt Lou", 93, a long-time resident of Charleston, West Virginia and most recently of Urbana, IL, passed away on August 22, 2017 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, IL. She was born on May 5, 1924 in Huntington, West Virginia and is the last surviving child of Henry Kirke White and Mabel Alice Leach White. She was preceded in death by siblings, Rosalie, Norma, Frances, Henry, Robert, Charles, Jimmy, and Irwin. During her life she had an impact, as a loving care-giver, on the lives of a number of children in her family, as well as the children of several friends and acquaintances. Even with her declining health, poor eye sight, and hearing difficulties, she was strong-willed and fiercely independent to the last days of her life, and was most proud of her mental acuity. She was not ashamed to say she preferred her own company to most. During her short residence at CU Nursing and Rehab, she frequently mentioned the kindness and compassion of nurses, Mensah, Wanda, Natalie, Amanda, staff member Lindeen, and others. She appreciated a hot cup of coffee every morning with a cigarette and a quiet visit with her friend, Alvin, in the afternoons and evenings. Shortly after a loving visit from special friend, Carol Elliott, and family members, Jesse, Anthony, and Linda Ratliff, she seemed ready for her well-deserved eternal rest and took her last breath with niece, Barbara, by her side. She was a woman of faith and said her prayers every day. Swing Low Sweet Chariot. According to her wishes, her cremation will be handled by Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St. Champaign, IL 61820, and there will be no services. Please join Aunt Lou's family in sharing memories, photos, and videos on her tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
