Cayuga, Ind. -- Elsie M. Hawn, 86, of Cayuga, Indiana passed away at 8:46 p.m. EST Monday, January 7, 2008 at West Central Community Hospital in Clinton, Indiana. She was born July 6, 1921 in Newport, Indiana, the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Margaret Richardson Kinderman. She married Samuel W. Hawn on October 18, 1936 in Dana, Indiana. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2001. Survivors: three daughters, Freda Weaver of Catlin, Illinois; Carol(Ray)Lewis of Rockville, Indiana and Cheryl(Steve)Bullington of Murray, Kentucky; one son, Mike Hawn of Cayuga, Indiana; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty(Don)Delp of Cayuga, Indiana and Virginia Baldwin of Attica, Indiana; one brother, Wilson Kinderman of Newport, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Fulton and three brothers, Wilbur, Ralph and Lawrence Kinderman. Elsie was a former Eugene Township Trustee. She was a member of the Eugene United Methodist Church and the Eugene United Methodist Women. Elsie belonged to various social organizations. She was a food columnist for the Herald News for several years. Elsie enjoyed sewing and helping people. Funeral services: 10 a.m. EST Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Eugene United Methodist Church in Eugene, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Jon Overbey; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. EST Thursday, January 10, 2008 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Contributions may be made to the Eugene United Methodist Church, C/O Mrs. Richard Axtell, 5227 North Water Street, Cayuga, Indiana 47928.
