Elmer Arthur Thompson, 82, of Danville, died at 11:04 am on Sunday, July 9, 2006, at Provena USMC Logan Campus. Elmer was born July 22, 1923 in Danville, Illinois, the son of Robert C. and Lula E. Glass Thompson. He married Marian Eloise McBride on February 14, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Rossville. She survives. Also surviving are two sons: Michael (Nettie) Thompson on MN and Kenneth (Suzie) of Danville, Brother: Bud Thompson (Shirley) of Westville. Two sisters: Marie Jones (George) of Hoopeston and Luella (Don) Hennette of Westville. Four grandchildren: Kimberly, Shane, Chad, and Kyle. Ten great-grandchildren. His parents and three brothers preceded him in death. Elmer served in the US Army and was a veteran of World War II receiving a Pacific Theater Service Metal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Bronze Star, good Conduct Metal, and a Purple Heart. He worked as a millwright at Lauhoff Grain from 1951 until retiring in 1985. Elmers life was watching his grandchildren & great-grandchildren play sports and was a Cubs Fan. He also enjoyed working around the neighborhood, walking his dog, and visiting with neighbors. Elmer was a member of the American Legion Post #51and the Moose Lodge. A celebration of Elmers life will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at Lakeside-Barrick Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Blue officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Military Honors will be held by American Legion Post #51.
