Elmer Christians

Elmer Lee Christians, 92, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, surrounded by his family at Carle Hospital.

He was born on February 6, 1934, in Rantoul Township to Ernest and Trientje (Huls) Christians. He married Violet Siewert on February 5, 1972. She preceded him in death on March 4, 1994.

Elmer is survived by daughter, Kary Phelps, St. Anne; grandchildren, Jorgi (Mark) Hughes and Chad Siewert; great-grandchildren Wyatt and Levi Hughes; nephew David Christians; nieces Lorinda Grisham and Julie Sibley along with numerous great nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Herman, wife Violet, son Kurt Siewert, and nephew Byron (Pam) Christians.

Elmer attended country schools in the Flatville area and lived his life working the ground of his ancestors as a faithful farmer. He loved driving around, particularly checking on fields from planting through harvest. Elmer was a trusted, loyal friend who enjoyed being with his family and friends, playing cards, and having coffee with several groups over the years. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Thomasboro and a life member of the Moose Fraternity.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Lux Chapel 1551 E. Grove Ave. in Rantoul on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 10 am - 12 pm with a funeral service at 12 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Beckman Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or donor’s preference.
