Elmer "Butch" Ray Richey, of Catlin, passed this life on October 15, 2015 at 1:50 pm in Danville IL. Butch was born January 13, 1943 in Paris IL, the son of William Henry and Anna Belle Bolin Richey. He graduated from Seeger Memorial High School in 1961. Butch then enlisted in the US Army in 1961 and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1964 as PFC E3. Butch married Patricia J Murphy Clawson on May 24, 1974 and lived in Catlin for 41 years. Patty Joe preceded him in death in 2006. Butch is survived by his mother, Anna Belle, three sons Robert Richey, Michael (Mary) Clawson, Jeffrey (Melanie) Clawson; three daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Mills, Paula (John Bowers) Dolbee, Lori (Butch) Fields; 17 Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Two special grand-daughters Lynzie Fields and Samantha Eldridge who were his "buddies". A special niece, Tammy Burhmester, who he considered a daughter. He is also survived by two brothers, Steve (Carol) Richey and Bill (Janet) Richey. Butch is preceded in death by his father, his wife Patricia, and a sister, Peggy Sue Buhrmester. Butch was employed at Olin/Flexel for 33 years and 3 days. He enjoyed fishing, taking drives, storm chasing and most of all, his family and grandchildren. He followed his granddaughters sporting events and you would not be surprised to find him at a ball field or gym even after the girls retired from playing. He was known by all the girls on the teams as "Grandpa Butch". As a family, we will truly miss his mischievous grin and his endless stories. He never met a stranger and loved talking to anyone. A celebration of life memorial service for Butch will be held at 6:00PM on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville with Pastor Darren Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM prior to the service. Per his wishes, he will be cremated. Memorials may be made to Mid USA Mojo Softball Team, 1320 King St, Tilton IL 61833.
