Ellen "Kay" Acker, 82, of Danville, passed away at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 25, 2004 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville. She was born April 27, 1922 in Tuscola, Illinois, the daughter of Edwin C. and Tassie Ellen (Berry) Crane. She married Jerry Jeffries in 1940 in Louisiana; Jerry preceded her in death in 1950. She later married Dave "Bennie" Acker on December 24, 1955 in St. Augustine, Florida. Bennie preceded her in death in 1983. Kay is survived by: 6 Children- Cathy Waclaw of Springfield, IL, David (Patty) Walls of Danville, Gail (fianc - Kent Caudill) Day of Danville, Carl Ann Walls of Columbus, Ohio, Tracy Gay of Westville, Dawn Walls of Danville; 16 Grandchildren; 11 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Sisters- Cynthia Marie Walls of Danville, Lula Belle (Jim) Kardos of Newport News, VA; 1 Sister-in-law- Janet Walls of Danville and 1 Brother-in-law-Richard Elwell of Danville. Her parents, 5 Brothers, 3 Sisters, 1 Grand-daughter- Jessica Walls and 1 Great-Grandson- Corey Cudney preceded her in death. Kay was an over the road truck driver in her younger years, and worked independent shows for the Carnival circuit along with her husband Bennie. She was the Snack Bar manager for Zayre until her retirement. After her retirement, she worked as a private care giver for 22 years. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Post #210- Danville; she loved sports, golf, poker, baseball - especially the Cubs and the Cardinals, bingo, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Kay also loved wearing high heels, and was never seen without them.
