Elizabeth Jean Ross James, 92, of Rossville passed away at 4:27 a.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. She was born on July 7, 1912 in Pence, Indiana, the daughter of Hayes and Lillian (Cadle) Ross. She married Delmar James on February 24, 1940 in Rossville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 13, 1993. Survivors include a daughter- Rosalie (Michael) Holycross of Danville; a grandson- Clayton Holycross of Dunedin, Florida; and a brother-in-law- Paul James of De Motte, Indiana; Elizabeth also considered all of the Holycross family as part of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 1 sister in infancy. Elizabeth was a graduate of Williamsport High School in Indiana. She attended Indiana State University and earned her teaching degree from Illinois Wesylan in 1934. She was a member of the Delta Omicron sorority while in college. Elizabeth taught art and music at schools in Farmer City, Bellflower, and Alvin. She was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church. She was the youth and adult choir director for more than 30 years at the church. Elizabeth was very involved in her church and community and was the go to person in most of the church and community projects. Elizabeth was a recipient of the Vermilion County Homemaker Extension. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club and Rossville Historical Society. She was a very accomplished artist. She enjoyed doing oil paintings and chalk drawings. Elizabeth was a classic farm wife and mother. She enjoyed her family and her heritage both. Her only grandson was number one in her life. She was very appreciative of anything and anyone and a very grateful lady. She accepted whatever came her way with grace and dignity.
