Elizabeth Montgomery, 80, of Oakwood passed away at 12:23pm on Thursday August 31, 2017 at Carle Hospital in Urbana. She was born at home in rural area Hoopeston, IL on December 07, 1936 to Donald D. and Erma L. (McCreary) Brewington. She married Charles L. Montgomery on August 24, 1958 in Rankin. Her parents and husband precede her in death. She is survived by four children Elizabeth Jane (George) Osborn of Potomac, Charles Donald (Tamra) Montgomery of Fisher, Victoria Jean (Delbert) Lallathin of Fithian, John Dale Montgomery (Denise Morris) of Oakwood; ten grandchildren, Charles Lawrence (Courtney) Montgomery of Homer, Christopher Joe (Jessi Behm) Montgomery of Old Du Quoin, Wesley Donald Montgomery of Sullivan, Clinton Eli Lallathin of Champaign, Blake Andrew Lallathin of Carbondale, Grant Montgomery Lallathin of Fithian, Jennifer E. (Coty) Smith of Potomac, Joseph Wesley Osborn of Potomac, Stephanie (Kylee) Bott of Royal, and Heather Caudill of Fisher. Also surviving include 8 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Janice (Ronald) Lane of Danville and Barbara (Richard) DeThorne of Hawthorne Woods. Elizabeth graduated from Rankin High School in 1955 and attended Utterback and Brown's Business College in Danville, IL. She was involved in many organizations including the Oakwood United Methodist Church, Tilton Historical Society, Oakwood Historical Society, and the Illiana Genealogical and Historical Society. She was a 4-H leader. Elizabeth was a member of the Order of the Arrow and received the Silver Beaver Award and the God and Service Recognition Award from the Boy Scouts of America and received the Thank You award from the Girl Scouts. Other organizations she was involved with were the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem Achsah Shrine #65, Order of the Eastern Star in Danville, and the Share Food Program. Elizabeth was a Past Worthy High Priestess and part of the Chapter #854 Past Worthy Matrons. She made bread for the church and volunteering was her passion. She also enjoyed genealogy and family history. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 PM on Wednesday September 06, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will be Lee Legg Jr. and Patty Wise. Burial will be at Songer Cemetery in Tilton. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM at the funeral home on Tuesday September 05, 2017. Memorial donations may be made to the Oakwood United Methodist Church or the Tilton Historical Society.
