Eleanor Ruth Jenkins

Danville - Eleanor Ruth Powell Jenkins, 84, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Heritage Health Senior Care, Hoopeston where she had been a resident since January this year. Eleanor (affectionately known as Ellie) was born January 2, 1934 in Joliet, the second youngest daughter of Harry W. Powell and Eva A. (McClatchey) Powell lovingly blessed into a family of ten brothers and sisters. She was at various times a homemaker, waitress (Steak 'n Shake), and the owner-operator of a V.A. shelter care home serving primarily vets from WWI and WWII. Eleanor and Monty Jenkins were married on May 19, 1951 in Watseka, Illinois. Over the years they resided in several homes in the Westville-Danville area. Among her daily interests were BINGO, reading, puzzle books, and particularly family holidays. Monty and Eleanor were frequent customers at several area restaurants and donut shops. Her homemade specialty, pineapple upside down cake will be particularly missed! She is survived by one son; Jamey L. Jenkins (Mary), grandchildren; Laura, Elizabeth, and Jessica as well as six great-grandchildren; Kailee, Jordan, and Nathan Eldridge, Isla, Veda, and Finn Morgan. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years in 2011, twin sons; Ronnie W. Jenkins and Lonnie W. Jenkins, an infant daughter, and one grand-daughter; Amber Denise Jenkins Eldridge. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, with Pastor Teri Shane officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
