Eleanor J. Towner

Eleanor Joy (Tarpley) Towner, 93, passed away on January 7, 2021. Eleanor was born on April 7, 1927, the youngest child to Lemuel and Dessa Tarpley. Ellie graduated from Danville High School in 1945. She married Robert Earl Towner on August 3, 1946.

She is survived by her children, Robert L. (Mary) Towner of Urbana, Illinois, David B. (Christine) Towner of Zeeland, Michigan, Joy L. (Larry) Boggs of Oakwood and Lisa Dee Towner Hilleary of Danville. She was also blessed with five grandchildren, Alisa Thompson, Doug Towner, Dan Towner, Andrea Spagnuolo, Emily Otto; nine-great grandchildren, Olivia, Alex and Aiden Spagnuolo, Violet and Ellie Towner, Noah and Lucie Otto, Eliyanah Torin Towner, Austin Thompson and her special care giver, Rose Watson.

During her life she worked at the Danville Public Library, Block and Kuhl, Interstate Printers and Publishing, Danville Veterans Administration, and she retired from the Danville Branch of the Social Security office. After she retired, she became a CRIS Senior Service Lunch site manager at Vermilion House, with Robert as her number 1 volunteer.

Ellie was a past member of the Westville Junior Womens Club and Kickapoo Bowman Archery Club. She was a pianist, painter, and loved to knit and crochet, but her children were always her first priority and her greatest joy. Whether it was for private lessons or recitals mom always made sure that we were prepared.

Eleanor was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Holy Family Catholic Church or Schlarman Academy Music Department.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church 444 E. Main St. Danville, IL. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
