Edwin "Ed" M. Davis, 92, of Danville passed away at 2:40 AM on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Department of Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System. He was born on January 24, 1920 near Lagoda, Indiana, the son of Millard G. and Miranda (Selmer) Davis. On October 15, 1939 in Catlin Illinois, Ed married the love of his life Grace A. Gilliland. Grace survives along with two sons- Marvin E. (Debi) Davis of Danville, IL and Daniel L. (Kim) Davis of Huntington Beach, CA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Chris (Lisa) Davis, Briana (Daniel) Warner and Heather (Jim) Spencer and six great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters- Dorothy Nichols, Gladys Leverich-Steimel, Marjorie Campbell and Freda Davis. Ed was a U.S. Navy Seabees veteran serving on many islands in the South Pacific during World War II. After the service, Ed worked at General Motors, then in 1953 Ed and Grace started and operated Davis T.V. and Appliance Store and later started MarSue Furniture in 1968 with his son Marvin. Ed and Grace moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida in 1973 and started a construction business there, building screen rooms and overhead pool enclosures. In 1984 Ed and Grace moved back to Danville and spent their winters in California and Florida. Ed was a member of the Catlin Church of Christ. He enjoyed golfing, building and repairing things and being on the computer. He especially loved spending time with the love of his life, Grace and family. A Celebration of Ed's Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville with Pastor Darren Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will take place at Jones Grove Cemetery in Catlin. Please NO FLOWERS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Department of Veterans Affairs Home Base Primary Care Department.
