Edwin C. Conrad

Newport, Ind. - Edwin C. Conrad, 79, of Newport passed away at 1:19 a.m. EDT Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at his residence.

He was born March 29, 1938 in Hammond, Indiana the son of the late Edgar C. and Dorothy S. (Hendrickson) Conrad.

Edwin married Sharon A. Land on June 7, 1958 in Cedar Lake, Indiana. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2017.

Survivors include his children: Cindy (Kevin) Collins of Newport, Indiana and Edwin (Sheila) Conrad, II of Danville, Indiana; 3 grandchildren, Amanda Strader, Shawn Conrad and Justin Conrad; 4 great grandchildren, and one brother, Dale (Janet) Conrad of Kimberling City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Conrad, and infant sister, Sylvia, and infant brother, Doyle.

Edwin was the manager at the former Pauley Lumber in Cayuga, Indiana. He attended the Newport United Methodist Church. Following graduation from Lowell High School in 1956, Edwin enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Newport Lions Club since 1984, Cedar Lake Jaycees and the Newport American Legion Post 184. He enjoyed Indiana University Basketball, Indianapolis Colts Football, NASCAR and bird watching.

Visitation: Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 1 to 5 p.m. EDT at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana. Cremation will be accorded with inurnment to be held at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana at a later date.
