Danville- Edward Earl Walter, 87, of Danville, IL stepped into glory Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Hawthorne Inn. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born May 6, 1926 to Cecil & Faye Walter in Danville. He was married June, 1 1947 at first Christian Church in Bismark, IL He is survived by his wife of 66 years, children Diana Raymond (Marvin) of St.Louis, Michael (twyla) of Columbia, TN, Steven (Anita) of Danville; grandchildren Sara Darwin (Walden) of Mission, British Columbia Canada, Shauna (Matt) Clodfelter of Parkersburg, Jonathon (Kim) Raymond of Chicago, Garret (Becky) Walter of Columbia, TN, David (Danielle) Raymond of Franklin, TN, Chelsea (Jason) Sealy of Columbia, TN, Jacob & Joel Walter of Bloomington, IL; 11 great-grandchildren, Brothers George (Virginia) Walter of Rossville and Walter (Ruth) Duncan of Covington, and many dear nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother William “Bill” Walter (Betty-also deceased), Opal (Jake) & Clara Jackson (A beloved Aunt and Uncle who helped raise him), & Great-granddaughter Mary Genevieve Raymond. Ed graduated May 17, 1944 from Bismarck High School and entered the Navy on May 27, 1944. He received further training at Iowa State University & an Honorable Discharge on June 6, 1946. He then worked as an electrician for 41 years at GM Central Foundry where he was well liked and respected. His skill was often offered freely to help many neighbors, friends, and family. He taught 5th grade boys Sunday school and enjoyed serving as a high school youth sponsor for 5 years where he also attended Christ in youth conferences with many teens whom he still considered his “kids”. The Walter home was often a haven for many of them. It was his joy to serve for 33 years as a founding member of the Steering Committee for Pleasant Meadows Christian Village where he was also a volunteer. Serving 9 years on the Board of Christian Homes in Lincoln, IL was and Honor. He served at Second Church of Christ as a deacon, treasurer, trustee, and elder receiving the honor of Elder Emeritus. It was his great joy to serve his Lord& Savior. He loved his church family & was often instrumental as a part of the visitation team helping to welcome new people. He demonstrated true love through his faith, marriage, and family life. We know that he heard “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Contributions can be made in Eds name to Second Church of Christ Building Fund or Pleasant Meadows Christian Village. A celebration of Eds life will be held at 10:00am on August 31, 2013 at Second Church of Christ with Drew Mentzer officiating and burial at Manns Chapel Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00pm August 30, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville.
