Edward "Eddie" E. Knapp, 88, of Danville, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 at Asta Care in Paxton, Illinois. Edward was born on September 2nd, 1923, in Lodi, Ohio, the son of Gilbert and Olive (Carpenter) Knapp. He married Mary J. Gregg on October 9th, 1948, in Medina, Ohio. She preceded him in death in November of 1984. He is survived by a daughter- Jackie (Curtis) Heck of Armstrong, Illinois; son- Daryl (Sharon) Knapp of Orlando, Florida; four grandchildren- Michael Wernigk of Tifton, Georgia, Scott (Megan) Wernigk of Danville, Sean (Paola) Knapp of Orlando, Florida and Bryan (Melissa) Knapp of Dayton, Ohio; five great-grandchildren; and his "adopted" daughter- Pam Boorde of Georgetown. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother- Wayne Knapp and companion- Bonnie Boen. Edward graduated high school in Ohio. He served in the United States Army during WWII, serving under General Patton's 3rd Army 4th Armored Division. Eddie worked as a school crossing guard for District #118 for several years at Cannon Grade School. His greatest love was country music and he spent his whole life playing in bands all over the area and had an appreciation for great guitars. Eddie was a member of the local Musicians union and the Vermilion County Fishing Club. He enjoyed model railroads, camping, fishing and spending time with his family. A Celebration of the life of Edward E. Knapp will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 6th, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home. Burial will follow the service at Bethel Cemetery with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post #210. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
