GEORGETOWN - Edward D. Brent, 80, of Georgetown, IL, died at his home on Tuesday, April 17th, 2007. Born on December 23, 1926, Edward was the son of Ben and Felicia (Piasecki) Gonsowski of Georgetown, IL. He was a graduate of Georgetown High School. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed with the Seabees in the Pacific through the end of World War II. An electrician by trade, he worked for several companies in the area and retired from Illinois Power in 1983. He married Helen L. Susie Grimes on September 27, 1947, also of Georgetown. She preceded him on January 22, 2002. He was also predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Van Sheets and Julia Casper; and three brothers, Charles and Joseph Gonsowsky, and Donald Buck Brent. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Finnegan, and her husband James of New Berlin, NY; two sons, Mark Brent (Vickie) of Washington, IL; and Glen Brent (Diane) of Red Hook, NY. He has five grandchildren: Andrew (Ann) Brent of Parma, OH; Nicholas (Megan) Brent of Washington, IL, Tony Brent of Bloomington, IL, Evan Brent of Red Hook, NY and Emily Brent of Red Hook, NY. He has two great-grandsons, Harrison Brent and Aiden Brent. Ed loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was known for his non-stop drives to New York for visits. He loved working on his house and garden. Ed was well known for his short stories of past experiences. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April 21st, 2007, at 2:00 pm at Sunset's Houghton Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West St. Georgetown, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory should be made to the Georgetown Senior Center.
