Edward Arron Burd, 97 of Ridge Farm, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 1:32 AM at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman. He was born March 1, 1920 in Danville, the son of Truman E. and Goldie V. {Craft} Burd. On July 13, 1947, he married Susanna Brown in Spiceland, IN. She preceded him in death on November 23, 1992. Surviving are his children, Bill (Linda) Burd of Plant City, FL, Dick Burd of Tucson, AZ, and Alice (Sam) Corbin of Ridge Farm; grandchildren, Kara (Jay) Corbin-Lickfett, Connie (Alexis) Ignatiou, Rick (Toni) Burd, Will (Nicole) Burd, and Jack Burd; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Caroline Lickfett, Bennett Ignatiou, and Emma Burd; close family friend, Ruth White; and several nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Ervin (Charlene) Burd, and sister, Marrilee (Ernest) Smith. Edward proudly served his country in WWII in the US Army. He then worked as a finisher at General Motors for 26 years, retiring on September 30, 1975. He shot fireworks professionally on many July fourths and Indianapolis 500s. His family loved to watch him, and sometimes help him, light up the sky. He was also a member of the Ridge Farm Friends Church. Edward liked fishing, deer hunting, mushroom hunting, and archery. He also loved to camp and enjoyed being outdoors. Edward was a sports enthusiast, from being a child boxer to cheering on his beloved Cubbies in the World Series and the Illini teams, he loved all sports. In his earlier years, you could find him bowling or ice and roller skating. Edward also like to build and construct things with his hands, whether it be wooden boxes or fishing lures. He would make it before he bought it. He loved his family the most and they all will cherish their memories made with him forever. A celebration of Edward's life will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West Street, Georgetown. Pastors Joe and Mindy White will officiate. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the funeral home. Military Honors will be performed by the Chrisman American Legion.
