Eddie L. Lane

Fithian - Eddie Lee Lane, 79, of Fithian, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on June 12, 2026, with his family by his side, after a four-year battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Eddie was born in Danville, Illinois, on January 12, 1947, to Trave and Lavona Lane. He graduated from Oakwood Township High School in 1965 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. On August 28, 1965, he married the love of his life, Diane Cannon. Together they shared nearly 61 years of marriage and built a life centered on family, friendship, and service.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Diane; his daughters, Sonna (Todd) Lee, Kim (Rick) Fox, and SynDee Lane (Shane Warren), six grandchildren, Katie Lee, Brodie (Jade) Lee, Dalton Fox, Zachary Fox, Lane Warren, Gage Warren, and his cherished great-granddaughter, Taytum Lee.

Also surviving are his brothers, Craig (Shelley) Lane, Mike Lane, and Chad (Jo) Lane; his sister, Dena Lane; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents and a brother, Steve Lane, as well as his parents-in-law, Marion and Marjorie Cannon, and two brothers in law, Dick Cannon and Dean Cannon.

Ed proudly served 9½ years in the United States Navy, serving aboard five ships and at one naval air base during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he attended Danville Area Community College, earning two associate degrees. He later worked for the University of Illinois Department of Geology, retiring in 2012. An electrician by trade, Ed also provided electrical services to numerous local businesses, homes, and farms throughout the area, earning a reputation for his skill, dependability, and strong work ethic.

An avid outdoorsman, Ed loved hunting and fishing and took great joy in sharing those passions with his family. He traveled to Canada on four hunting trips and fishing adventures throughout Minnesota, Missouri, Michigan, Arkansas, and beyond.

Ed was a lifetime member of the Pollywogs, a past president of the Oakwood Men’s Club, a former president of the Camel Club, and a current member of American Legion Post 210. He was extremely proud of being a friend of Bill W. & Dr. Bob for the past 34 years, having celebrated his last milestone on June 5th.

A special thank you is extended to Paige Roe, who cared for Ed with extraordinary love, kindness, and devotion during the last seven months of his life. Her compassion, patience, and selfless dedication brought him comfort and peace, while always honoring his dignity and treating him with the utmost respect. The family also extends its sincere gratitude to the staff of Transitions Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided to Ed and his loved ones during his final days.
