EARNEST LEON DAVIS Earnest Leon Davis, 88, of Danville, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Earnest was born on August 4, 1917 in Muncie, Illinois, the son of Earl and Pearl (Hayes) Davis. He married Wanda Peggy McQueen on June 6, 1941 in Villa Grove, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 21, 1966. He later married Dorothy Coddington on November 10, 1967 in Danville. She preceded him in death on October 24, 1992. He is survived by five sons- Roger Davis of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jerry (Lisa) Davis of Danville, Richard (Candice) Davis of Madison, Wisconsin, Rev. John (Gayle) Davis of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Greg Davis of Bedford, Texas; two brothers- Emil (Sarah) Davis of Royal, Illinois and Frank(Myra) Davis of Watseka, Illinois; four sisters- June (Lloyd) Davis of Danville, Wintress (Dr. Demeter) Christoff of Danville, Norma (Jack) Wilson of Danville, and Bonnie (Harold) Spain of Potomac; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two wives. Earnest graduated from Oakwood High School. He later graduated from Illinois Business College. He was in the United Sates Air Force serving during WWII. Earnest worked as a farmer from 1945 to 1958. He worked at Production Credit Association and retired as vice president of Federal Intermediate Credit Bank of New Orleans, Louisiana in 1978. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. Earnest was a member of the Masonic Lodge-Ogden Blue Lodge. He was a past member of the Danville Elks Lodge 332. He was also a past board member of Ogden School District. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. But most of all he enjoyed his family and spending time with them. A celebration of the life of Earnest Leon Davis will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2005 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Rev. John Davis officiating. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in Earnests name to the Vermilion County Conservation District or to the Vermilion County Historical Society.
