Danville - Earl L. Wonderlin, 99, of Danville died at 6:20 AM on May 3, 2014 at the Hawthorne Inn of Danville. He was born in Catlin, IL on September 5, 1914, the son of William and Minnie Smith Wonderlin. Earl was married to Marie Lourance on April 22, 1953. They were married for 63 years when she passed away on May 21, 1998. Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Russ) Hibler of Danville; nine grandchildren, Debbie (Terry) Toler, Steve Phillips, Lori Wood, Terri McClure, Jeff (Mary) Hibler, Penny (Brian) Bensyl, Ronnie Hibler, Kelli (Rod) Pierce, Scott Neff; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma Hibler, a son in law Ron Hibler, a son Bill Wonderlin, a grandson Alan Neff, three brothers and four sisters. Earl had worked in a coal mine for 18 years before joining General Motors for 25 additional years. He retired from GM in 1976 and was a member of the UAW 579 and a former UMW member. Earl loved watching all sports, especially Illini games, but was a lifelong member of the Die Hard Cubs Fan Club. He was a left handed pitcher, playing for the W&W Coal baseball team in 1941 in the Twilight League, when he pitched a no hitter game. A service to celebrate the life of Earl Wonderlin will be held at 12 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel, A Life Celebration Home in Oakwood, IL. Pastor Kenneth Bostwick will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM-12PM prior to the service on Tuesday, also at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel.
