Earl G. Hargan 83, of Catlin-Georgetown area, passed away at 1:04 p.m. Friday June 4, 2010 at his home. He was born July 20, 1926 in Ogden, IL, the son of Glen G. and Vera Case Hargan. He married Martha J. Owen on May 24, 1950 in Lawrence, IL, she survives. Those who will miss him include his wife, Martha; his daughters, Glenda (Bob Alexander) Hargan of Danville, Tara Hargan of Catlin, Kathleen (Mark) Estock of Auburn, Marilee (Craig) DeArmond of Danville and Rosalie (Evan) Dowers of St. Joseph; his grandchildren, Athena Huckaby of Staten Island, N.Y., Hallie, Joe, Samuel and Abbey Rose Estock, all of Auburn, Paul DeArmond of Danville, and Dutch, Benjamin and Dezarae Dowers, all of St. Joseph. Earl was preceded in death by his parents. Earl was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII, serving on LST 1108, his ship helped evacuate Bikini Atol before the nuclear bomb testing. He worked at the V.A. Hospital for 38 years as Chief of food production. Earl was a member of the Georgetown Friends Church; he was a 32 degree Mason with Anchor lodge #980 and Scottish Rites, Member of the Georgetown American legion# 203 and the V.F.W. # 728, also a member of the Pollywog Association. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His hobbies include fishing, mushrooming, gardening and tending to his fruit trees, also bird watching and camping with his family and loved to travel with his wife. A celebration of life funeral service for Earl G. Hargan will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday June 8, 2010 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure funeral home in Georgetown. Officiating will be Pastor James Blue. Visitation for family and friends will be 4-8 p.m. Monday June 7, 2010 at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be at 6:00 pm Monday during visitation by Anchor Lodge #980. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah cemetery west of Georgetown. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy. Memorial contributions can be given to Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
