Earl Cox, Sr.

Tolono - Earl R. Cox, Sr. ,74, of Tolono, passed away at 4:39 PM on Monday, June 13, 2016 at his home. He was born on February 9, 1942 in Sidney, IL to Jesse E. and Florence (Loar) Cox. He married Larraine Woodworth on February 5, 1964 in Charleston, IL. She survives. Also surviving are two children, Earl R. Cox, Jr. of Tolono, and Debbie (David) Lough of Tuscola; a sister, Dorothy Eiskamp of St. Joseph; five grandchildren, Jason Rahn, Dawn Skaggs, Danielle Skaggs, Nick Lough, and Nicole Lough; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. Earl was the owner/operator of Cox's Roofing for 25 years. He also worked for the Champaign Health Department as a Maintenance Engineer until his retirement in 2005. Earl enjoyed fishing, carpentry, camping, and gardening, but especially loved trains. He knew all of the engineers by name that came by his house, as well as their distinct whistle blows. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Earl Cox, Sr., will be held at 4 PM on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Countryside United Methodist Church in Urbana. Reverend Robin King will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2:30-4 PM prior to the service. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Sunset's Champaign-Urbana Chapel. Memorials may be made to Earl's family to assist with funeral expenses.
